News on Thai Food2009-01-03 Malees on Main, 3 starsMalees on Main, 3 stars Although Thai food is Malees raison detre, the happy-hour menu takes a broad-brush approach, offering steamed edamame, coconut-encrusted fried shrimp and crab Rangoon, a purely American invention. Except for kosher-salt-sprinkled edamame ( usd. 2), all the dishes ring in at usd. 5. 25, and because portions are generous, two or three items (four if youre absolutely starved) might serve as dinner for two. Invite somebody youd like to talk to and while away the afternoon over snacks and cocktails at Malees Thai on Main. Youll emerge from this cozy fireplace-furnished nest just as the lights are going on in Old Town Scottsdale. 2009-01-02 Columbus Alive : Year in eats: Breaking bread newsCloser to home - but not that close - I also enjoyed motoring to Chi Thai way out in Gahanna. Though a white-cloth and alcohol-serving restaurant, its still family-friendly. Chi Thai laid out highly accomplished versions of classic Chinese takeout fare but also (and more interestingly) some of the zestiest, best and hard-to-find-anywhere-else Thai food in the area (try the Bangkok fish and Pataya shrimp). The point is, I get around. And while fighting off getting too, uh, round (everybodys favorite - if futile - New Years resolution) I eat far and wide for you, dear reader (how selfless of me. ), so I can report on nearby worthwhile food. 2009-01-02 (Over)eating Thai in Essex The Burlington Free PressAt the table were my brother-in-law and my sister, Patti, a confirmed Thai food addict who grows her own lemongrass and Thai basil and has been known to spend all day preparing an entire fish, deep-fried Thai-style. These fresh rolls of soft rice paper wrapped around noodles, fresh basil, bean sprouts and shrimp are one of my favorite foods. Drunken Noodles version had obviously been prepared moments before. The rice wrapper was still moist, the interior fragrant and crunchy. A chili-spiced dipping sauce provided just the right nip to compliment the mild vegetal flavors of the rolls. 2009-01-01 Novatos Thai Bistro delights in unexpected ways - Marin Independent JournalIt is easy to get stuck in a rut with food. It is also easy to relegate many ethnic cuisines to take-out or on-the-go status. Thai Bistro offers another option - a more upscale dining experience with plenty of attention to well-prepared dishes in a comfortable and friendly environment. Maybe the new year is just the time to venture out of the comfort zone and try something different. Restaurants in strip malls and shopping centers are a reality of suburban living. And though the food is often as mediocre as its surroundings, sometimes a restaurant rises above its unremarkable locale and surprises and delights. With its fresh, beautifully presented dishes sprinkled with pomegranate and pretty shaped vegetables, Thai Bistro in Novato does just that. Novato

2009-01-01 Thai Orchids best dishes are good in several waysTranslation: Asian/American - with chicken, onions, Napa cabbage, bean sprouts and scallions. Because there is an addition of sweet soy sauce, this is probably a good way to start children on Thai food. There is, however, a limited childrens menu. Last but not least, dont leave Thai Orchid without having a curry - specifically, green curry with shrimp ( usd. 9. 95). Green curries are traditionally hotter, balancing saltiness and the sweet that comes from coconut milk. The helping of plump shrimp that tasted ocean-fresh was generous, and somewhere, somehow, Thai Orchid found the most tender julienne bamboo shoots. Those, along with peas and green beans, created a balanced, beautiful and delicious meal, served, like all entrees, with steamed rice.
