2009-06-08 Daily Kos: Whats For Dinner; More Sage Advice

Slice a large clamshell container of strawberries (I slice them rather small so it makes more of the "sauce"). Rinse. Place in a container with a close-fitting top. Pour 1 cup of sugar (to taste) over the berries and add just enough water to wet the sugar. Lightly crush and toss in a few leaves of mint or lemon balm (or. experiment. ). Cover and refrigerate. Let the strawberries stew in the syrup for at least 5-6 hours. To serve; place a "shortcake" or biscuit or slice of angel food cake in the bottom of a bowl. Add one scoop of ice cream (we use Tillamook strawberry). Spoon berries over ice cream, be sure to get some syrup. Add whipped cream and nuts if desired. Garnish with 1/2 a berry. Dig in.

Chu Chee Pla you and rsquo;ll never see on another menu. It consists of crispy blowfish topped with red curry sauce, kaffir lime leaves, colorful bell peppers, string beans and fresh basil over jasmine rice. Chef Moon, who recalls cooking for and serving 20 to 30 employees on her father and rsquo;s farm back in Thailand (after the harvest, before the rainy season arrived - and ldquo;it taught us to be humble, and rdquo; she said), promised that the hard-to-find blowfish will be a moist, tender and entirely delicious treat, complemented by some traditional Thai herbs.

2009-06-07 In profile: two Thai food providers

Visiting two different players in the Thai food industry has allowed a wide-ranging view that takes in much in its sweep: company growth and corporate identity development; food hygiene procedures; values; export and domestic ambition; cultural sensitivity in preparing food; company objectives and philosophies. These are the forces driving I. T. Food Industries and Thai Airways. All corporate life is here.

The exporting side of the firm is in fine fettle, but the pressure is on to expand the domestic market. Company spokesperson Kanograt Poonbon explains why: "We process, package and distribute quality frozen food with the aim to develop our domestic market here in Thailand. It is a matter of cultural preference for consumers to get raw material and fresh produce fromthe market and cook it straight away - asan organic, singleprocess. Wed like to expand consumertastes in this regard".

2009-06-06 Fit to be Thaid: Deejai Thai Restaurant Charlotte Restaurants and Bars Features

What Charlotte has lacked, though, is adequate variation in Thai regional cuisines. This is not to say that local Thai restaurants do not offer different tastes from around this southeastern Asian country. Some do, but not enough for local food lovers to be discerning of the difference.

Owners Jai Budsri and her husband Shane Nofziger opened Deejai in Myers Park after selling a restaurant in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. Budsris family is from northeastern Thailand, known as Isan (pronounced E-San), and they first opened a restaurant in the suburbs of Chicago. Later, they relocated to a warmer Atlanta. Budsris brother still operates their store in Decatur. Nofziger says they moved to Charlotte because there is not as much competition here. He says, "In Buckhead, we had four or five other Thai restaurants on the same street. Charlotte offers more opportunity. "

2009-06-03 Miami - Short Order - Reader Review: Le Banyan

I have been there twice and I think it is the best Thai food that I have ever experienced -- and I am talking about Thai food outside of Miami. The owners remodeled the restaurant -- it was last occupied by those Romans who skipped town (you wrote a review on that restaurant) -- and it is a truly elegant experience. Also, it is costly (although the quality and freshness of the food is exceptional) and in the wrong neighborhood.

2009-06-02 48 Hours in Angels and Demons Rome - Europe

Having checked into your hotel, head for great food and a real Italian vibe at the Antica Enoteca on Via della Croce between Via del Corso and Piazza di Spagna. A lively wine bar/restaurant with freshly prepared appetizers at the bar, great pizza, and a terrific tiramisu.

Heading south from Piazza del Popolo, check out Tad Caf at 155A Via del Babuino, a concept store where you can shop for clothes, household goods, flowers and perfumes, get your hair cut and eat tasty Thai-Italian fusion cuisine all in one super slick and trendy location.

2009-05-31 Bangkok Post : HEATED DEBATE HAS NOTHING ON A HEATED WOK

I felt somewhat relieved at the news of having been suspended from political activity. I can get up late and eat hot food in the morning now that I am no longer a politician," she mused. "I fulfilled my only dream of opening a small restaurant to promote the Sukhothai noodle recipe and other Thai food in my home neighbourhood. Khun Somsak and I have always been sentimentally attached to our native town of Sukhothai. And Im doing it for the love. "
