A country with the higher proportion of vegetables in the diet like in China, which is healthy in that respective, has a lower footprint. But we can see that also in many countries, the food preferences are changing, and the food becomes more water intensive in our food consumption, and this will affect the water resource availability globally," Bertil explained.

2010-08-31 Colonialism, Redux: European Companies Grab African Land in Bid for Biofuels Fast Company

Of course, not all African countries are experiencing land grabs at the same rate. The hardest hit include Mozambique (over 183,000 hectares allocated for jatropha), Benin (400,000 hectares of wetlands to be converted to oil palm crops), Sierra Leone (Swiss company Addax Bioenergy purchased 26,000 hectares for sugarcane), and Ghana (over 800,000 hectares purchased by international biofuel companies). These unlucky countries are subject to a range of problems--soil degradation, loss of arable land for food, increase in food prices, and water depletion, among other things.

2010-08-30 Feeding Frenzy in Sweden - Scratch Crib

According to Salt and Sill, today production comes from just one company: Kladesholmen Seafood AB. Some of the company owners are fifth generation. They then carried out a number of tests on the M-cells and the parent colon cells that they had been grown from. The cells were grown as a layer a single cell thick in special containers in such a way that the cell layers had solutions above and below them which did not mix. The researchers then applied bacteria to the upper surface of this layer and incubated it for up to four hours. After this time they tested to see how much bacteria had been transported across the cells to reach the solution underneath the cell layer. They then tested the effects of the different preparations on the transmission of E. coli across the cell layers. They applied the soluble fibre or other food substance onto the cells before applying the bacteria and measured whether this affected the transport of E. coli across the cell layer. They also

Beauregard Food Co.

No one is ever going to mistake Market Street at DC Ranch for Bourbon Street in New Orleans. But Dan Brinton is hoping that Beauregard Food Co. can perhaps create a temporary bit of geographical confusion.

In comparison, the Swedish cream - thick, yogurtlike cream draped with sweetened fruit - may seem benign. Its not, but its still undeniably tasty.
