2009-01-05 Should the Utes be National Champions Perspectives on New Orleans.

This week I made my first trip to New Orleans since the 1987 NCAA Final Four. Ill leave with a number of new impressions of the City and the Sugar Bowl. First, a congrats to the Utes and their Coaches. Great game plan, great execution. Kyle Wittingham and his co-ordinators completely out smarted the Bama Coaches. Then the players went out and out-played them. (Too bad their losing Gary Anderson and Andy Ludwig. )

2009-01-03 Helen Hill: An Unfinished Story

On , the news of a category 5 hurricane barreling across the Gulf of Mexico sent them packing. They took Rosie the pig, but left two cats inside with a supply of dry food and litter. Like nearly everyone in New Orleans who had a car and evacuated, they assumed theyd return in a week or so. Gailiunas, Hill, Francis and Rosie drove for a day-and-a-half to Hills hometown of Columbia, S. C. From the safety of her parents house, they followed TV news as Hurricane Katrina assaulted the city. They watched in agony as the levees broke, putting 80 percent of the city underwater, as looters marauded and thousands were trapped in downtown public spaces. Their own house took 4 feet of water. Gailiunass clinic was one of several thousand small businesses forced to close.

2008-12-31 Bush administration abandoned GOPs economic conservatives Springfield News-Leader

Democrat William Jefferson, who is black, lost re-election to Republican Anh Cao in a New Orleans district that is 60 percent black, with only 11 percent registered Republican. Jefferson faced federal bribery charges after investigators discovered usd. 90,000 in funds from a Nigerian official in Jeffersons freezer.

Cao proved that Republicans can win in big cities like New Orleans. Mitt Romney showed that Republicans can even win in Massachusetts. These candidates did not adopt liberal positions. They focused on conservative issues that people in their areas supported, rather than issues where they disagreed with their constituents.

2008-12-31 In difficult times, give freely to assist others

We write checks to our local churches, mosques or synagogues for their emergency funds. We collect food for our community food banks, or we work with our community organizations to find a family that can share our home for a short period of time.

When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, thousands of Atlantans stepped forward to open our homes and our wallets to help.

Now an elderly woman has some extra cash, some company in her home, and someone to drive her to doctors appointments. And, a young couple has some breathing room to find new jobs and permanent housing.

Former Aides Say President Bush Never Able To Recover From Mistaken Handling Of Hurricane Katrina

When the Bush administration finally sent aid it was too little too late and much of the aid was bungled. Worse still, New Orleans, and most of the rest of Americas affected Gulf Coast, still hadnt recovered from the disaster when presidential hopeful John Edwards (D-NC) launched his run for the White House making his announcement in New Orleans, using as a backdrop the still-ravaged city streets of New Orleans lower ninth ward.

Images from New Orleans, LA, in looked more like a disaster in a third world nation than the worlds wealthiest and most powerful nation.

Ahh New Orleans. Its one of the best cities in the country to visit for fun, food and late-night revelry. Its a great place to be for a football game too, the Utah Utes say.

Sensing there was some disappointment surrounding that loss, Alabama coach Nick Saban has been very vocal about pumping up the matchup between the teams. He said this game would be the legacy for this Alabama team and that fans should be in New Orleans to support the Tide.

2008-12-30 Alabama players check out the Saints, enjoy New Orleans. and other stuff. - The Rap Sheet

New Orleans is not Shreveport. Thats pretty clear. And by now, the Alabama players realize that, too. There is good food (like Acmes oysters, pictured right) and some good times. The players took some time to experience some of it Sunday, taking in a Saints game.

You could tell guys really have got their minds set on what we have to do this week. Were in New Orleans, its a new city for us, were only here for a week, but we showed good intensity and good determination as a team.
