Since were on the subject of Mexican food, Im going to tell you about a fantastic experience I had in Denver. I had lunch at Tamayo. I went with a group of people and we ordered the queso fundido and guacamole for the table. The guacamole cant be compared to Rosas but it was good. My entree was Tacos de Robalo (beer battered striped bass) and AYY DIOOOS MIOOOO estaban requetebuenisimos. Y la bebida Una margarita con Patron por supuesto. I wish Tamayo was in Miami bc the weather in Denver didnt agree with my tropical skin so its doubtful Ill go back anytime soon

2009-06-12 Step back for a look at the way we used to eat

For example, while we tend to be nostalgic for the "classic recipes" of yore, Im often not only indifferent but repulsed when I read old recipes. The 70s in particular was a regrettable food decade. This time period saw not only the rise of the diet (jellied tomato cubes, anyone), but also the rise of American "fusion cooking," in which home cooks proudly Americanized Chinese and Mexican food. In both those cuisines, we found something we could love: soy sauce and cheddar cheese.

This is how my grandmother taught us to cook. No recipes. We go by flavor and smell," says Carmelo Guzman, a native of San Luis Potos, Mexico, who followed his brother to Rochester a few years ago. Juan remains stationed at the grill while Carmelo plays the front man, taking orders, cashing out bills, asking customers if they want extra sour cream or salsa. Both worked in construction until they accrued enough capital to launch their small-scale food venture.

Born in Veracruz but a resident of San Diego since he was 3, Couturier has assembled a menu of traditional Mexican fare based almost entirely on recipes from his mother and grandmother. Now, dont expect daring preparations or exotic ingredients at this relatively new South Park eatery. Here, its all about simple yet solid Mexican cuisine you would expect to find south of the border, although pricier.

OK, so maybe the kitschy decor is a little over the top something even owner Mauricio Couturier will admit. But he says he wanted his first Mexican restaurant to reflect his passion for his homelands culture and food.

2009-06-18 Eating on the Cheap: To beat the rising cost of food, cook at home and save money

Achieves her goal of usd. 3 a serving by cutting out waste, avoiding expensive processed foods, and taking a few shortcuts -- such as bottled lemon juice instead of whole lemons and frozen vegetables in recipes where you wont be able to distinguish them from fresh.

In short, Browns answer to rising food costs is more home cooking. Forget takeout, and forget much of the frozen, canned or pre-packaged foods out there. Make it yourself, Brown says, and you can save money as well as eat more nutritious food devoid of so many additives and chemicals.

Pour over the beef cubes until the cover with the marinade. Refrigerate the extra sauce for later. Marinate the beef for 1 hour to overnight in your refrigerator or cooler. Remove the beef from the bag and place the meat on skewers. Cook on the grill or broiler, basting frequently with the extra reserved sauce. Cook until desired internal temperature has been reached (rare, medium, well, etc. ) Serve with warm flour tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. Spanish rice and refried beans will make nice side dishes. Be sure to serve with plenty of Mexican beer with lime slices.
