Latin America M and A Surges in Best Start Since 2000 on Recovery

March 5 (Bloomberg) -- Takeovers in Latin America are off to the best start in at least a decade, bucking a global slump, as economic recoveries in Brazil and Mexico spur consolidation in the telecommunications, food and commodities industries.

Investor optimism over Brazil and rsquo;s recovery has been tempered by concern that China, the country and rsquo;s biggest trading partner, may further curb bank lending to slow growth. Brazil and rsquo;s presidential elections in October and the end of economic stimulus programs worldwide may and ldquo;reduce visibility for the second half of this year, and rdquo; said Charles Stewart, Morgan Stanley and rsquo;s head of Latin American investment banking in Sao Paulo, who relocated from New York in 2008.

Colombia Maintains Rate at 3. 5 pct. Amid Tame Inflation (Update1)

The board may not want to cut rates to stimulate the economy as policy makers anticipate a lower level would lead to a resurgence of inflation, said David Duarte, a Latin America economist at 4Cast Inc. in New York.

Policy makers said today that the bank and rsquo;s inflation estimates include short-term increases in food prices because of the El Nino weather pattern. The increases and ldquo;will reverse in the second half of the year, and rdquo; the bank said.

2010-02-25 Mexico, Brazil stocks down as confidence data fall Latin American Markets - MarketWatch

Back in Sao Paulo, investors in Brazilian equities also weighed a report about rising inflation against a report that retail sales declined in December. The countrys census bureau, known as IBGE, said its consumer-price index rose 0. 94 pct. through mid-February from mid-January, fueled by a jump in prices for education, food and transportation. The index rose 0. 52 pct. through mid-January.

This years recovery will be an external demand-led recovery as Mexicos industrial sector follows the auto-led manufacturing rebound in the U. S. ," wrote Edgar Camargo, an economist covering Latin America at B. of A. Merrill Lynch, in a research report. "In contrast, we expect domestic demand to remain subdued and only gradually catch up in (the second half of 2010) as a sustained recovery in manufactures spreads to other sectors of the economy. "

Noble Hill Wine Estate, previously Cowlin Wines, was purchased by the Tillery family in 2006 and they immediately started with some additions. They built a new barrel maturation cellar, purchased a further 20 hectares of vineyards on the slopes of the mountain and started a delightful new restaurant called Cosecha (Spanish for harvest). It was at Cosecha that we tasted the range of Noble Hill wines along with the Latin flavours of the food.

2009-12-10 Viva Latin: Preparation of holiday fare epitomizes Hispanic culture Grand Forks Herald Grand Forks, North Dakota

When it comes to traditional Latin and Hispanic holiday food, you dont have to venture south of the border to get your first glimpse. Many areas of this country boast large Hispanic populations, some well-established, others newly formed by recent immigrants. This might help explain partly why Americans penchant for Latin or Hispanic food is growing by leaps and bounds.

The reason tamales top the list of favorite holiday fare in Mexico, as well as many other Latin countries, is because they take so much time to make and usually are made only a few times a year and in big batches. Some say they are the perfect holiday food, since you have to unwrap them like a little present.
