Japanese food is our go-to food for birthday dinners. Well, okay, we find every reason to drop by our favorite sushi places when the hankering hits. (And Wonder Boy can only take so much of the Trader Joes miso soup

Our first date was at a Japanese restaurant (the original Tokyo Lobby in San Gabriel). The night before I was scheduled to be induced and deliver Firstborn Son, my "last meal" of choice was "all you can eat" sushi (but only the cooked ones. Yes, Im a wimp. )

2010-08-25 Japan food prices reportedly fall further in July - MarketWatch

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Most Japanese prices for food and household items sold at supermarkets fell further in July, according to a study published Tuesday by the Nikkei business daily. The point-of-sale survey showed year-on-year declines for 52 of 60 food and household items, "in what could be seen as a sign of prolonged deflation," according to the report. The report said the results dashed hopes that a heat wave across much of Japan would have helped sales for some items. Instead, retailers have stepped up their discounting and continue to do so, in some cases "to reflect the stronger yen. "

If convenience, luxury and endless eating and shopping are what you are looking for, stay at The Nagoya Marriot Associa Hotel; it is located in one of the towers atop the Nagoya Station Complex. 2010-08-21 The nutritional value of Japanese food - by Katarzyna Radzka - Helium

Because of the nutritional value and delicious taste of Japanese food it has become a more popular choice around the world. Sushi bars have opened all over the place offering nutritional Japanese options including salmon, seaweed, wasabi and green tea. Eating a few servings of Japanese food every week will boost the nutritional value of your own diet and make you healthier for longer.

One of the main staples of Japanese food is rice. Rice provides a good source of carbohydrates and is eaten every day. It works well in soups, with vegetables, meats and fish. Only a small portion is required to give you a balanced meal. Add a half cup of rice to your lunch or dinner.

2010-08-19 American Chronicle Japanese players stretch a lot more, eat a lot less: Players enjoy cultural opportunity

CEDAR RAPIDS Forget the language barrier and other cultural differences. Maybe the biggest adjustment a team of high school baseball players from Yamanashi, Japan, has had to make during a weeklong stay in Iowa is food. And not necessarily the food itself.

The most impressive thing is that there are so many grass areas. Kanai and Hosaka, 17, noted there are differences between Japanese baseball and what they experienced here.

2010-08-13 Pasta Like a Yohomama Mamma Might Make: Japan Reworks a Classic Italian Dish into the Napolitan - Japan Real Time - WSJ

But its not just delicate slivers of fish and healthy eda-mame that people get excited about here. Some of the best-loved Japanese food is about as subtle as a sumo wrestler, including foreign dishes that have evolved into new forms to suit local tastes (and would probably perish if removed from their natural habitat. )

The Japanese take on Italian cuisine that combines spaghetti, sausages, onions, green peppers and tomato ketchup (yes, ketchup) into a sweet-tasting stir-fry far removed from some of the classics of Neapolitan cuisine, which thrives on relatively simple twists using the freshest of vegetables and seafood.
