2010-08-31 Afghan poll candidate rages against graft, Karzai Reuters

To make his point, he set up camp in his spartan tent and shunned the business of expensive campaigning, with its slick posters and rallies with free food to woo voters.

Campaigning means you should have a programme, not just a slogan. Its all about big posters, its a fashion competition," said Bashardost, whose tent is dwarfed by a huge banner for suave parliament speaker Yunus Qanuni, one of the veterans he bemoans.

2010-08-28 A Fix for Bare Walls in Manhattan

You can often get a poster of the exhibit you visit or event you attend. In the kitchen I even have two interesting posters of a restaurant in the Berkshires where I ate a few times (good food).

Mr. Williams has more than 100,000 of these, perish the words, advertisements and propaganda, in his blocklong, three-floor, Civil War-era store on Chambers Street near City Hall. He calls his the worlds largest poster shop, and as someone who prowls the globe for posters, he may know.

2010-08-26 Afghan elections: Record number of women stand for parliament World news The Guardian

With voting billed for 18 September, Kabuls streets have been plastered in posters and billboards, many of which show the faces of would-be female MPs in the capital, the number of whom has more than doubled since 2005. However, many of the posters do not stay up long, or get defaced with slashes of bright red ink.

A professional woman from the Panjshir Valley north of Kabul, Bahkshi is operating out of a tiny office borrowed from a friend on the top floor of a dilapidated building. With precious little money for posters, she is waging a door-to-door campaign after she finishes work each evening.

2010-08-12 Dose: Facebook needs a few purgatories The Des Moines Register

Facebook for parents. Instead of actually parenting, you can just post updates on what your kid did today. This would include any reference to how proud you are that your kid "pooped in the potty," pictures of your kid with food on his face or adorable quotes from your kid as if he were coerced by Bill Cosby. Also, if you are a pregnant woman, you have to start posting here, too. Facebook doesnt want to know about your desire to dip a dill pickle in Tin Roof Sundae ice cream or the fact that lately you cant stop crying in Walgreens.

We were struck by these magnificent New Deal- and World War II-era food-related posters created by the Works Porgress Administration (WPA) to encourage the American public to do such things as: preserve surplus food in times of shortages, go to the store and buy real food from a real live human (sound familiar), eat a well-rounded diet, and, for the love of god, DRINK SOME MILK.
