2010-09-02 Business Daily: - Company Industry Consumers set to pay more for imported food

The effects of this have already reflected locally with bread makers increasing the prices for a 400-gramme loaf by at least Sh4, citing the rally in global prices of wheat while other food items such as milk and potatoes have also gone up in the past few weeks.

Consumers face higher food inflation in the coming months following a rally in international prices of commodities imported into the country.

Fresh data by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) show the rally in prices spread to commodities such as sugar and oil seed while those of grains like rice are also expected to go up.

2010-08-31 Hot Topic - Anthony Myint

I should admit here that I am biased because the chef is my friend Danny Bowien, and we started Mission Chinese Food together. Our goal was to use high-quality ingredients and fine-dining techniques to make Szechuan food, while keeping it affordable, delivering it across the city, and donating a portion of the proceeds. And objectively, I think weve succeeded. Were serving up food thats simultaneously refined, deep and intense, with no MSG, and weve raised over usd. 4000 for the San Francisco Food Bank since opening in July.

2010-08-26 Could Egg Contamination Have Been Prevented - The Early Show - CBS News

Preventing contamination is one thing, detecting it is another. The anti-regulation Republicans in Congress, at the behest of corporations, have pulled all the teeth of the federal watchdogs at the Department of Agriculture, and made all inspections of our food "voluntary. " Yes, it costs the government money to conduct inspections, and yes it costs money for companies to comply with health codes. As Republicans are so fond of saying, Freedom is not FREE. Americans expect their food to be inspected, and its NOT. Now, does anyone dream that the Texas Whitehouse of George Bush cared if the nations beef was ever inspected for MAD COW I dont eat beef, I remember what happened in England, God knows what were feeding our cows with no inspectors having any power on our ranches, farms, or slaughterhouses. Republicans have sacrificed

2010-08-24 Food Photography: How to Plan a Food Shoot - Diners Journal Blog

There are several things that you have to be very conscience of when planning a food shoot. The first thing I do, almost without fail, is look at a weather report. Like surfers, baseball managers and airline pilots, you will become an amateur meteorologist when you commit to a food photo shoot. I prefer to shoot in daylight whenever possible, and the quality of that light is obviously a major factor.

If you are doing your own cooking, do as much advanced prep as possible. If the food can be prepared the day before, like soup or stew, then reheating, plating and garnish is all you need to do. If not, then pace yourself and try to handle just one dish at a time and have enough food to plate the dish multiple times.
