Juancho Miday, spent a couple of years in Chennai. And was not sure how happy he would be once he shifts to another state in the south of India. After having spent fun years stirring and steaming the yummiest of dishes for the varied food connoisseurs in Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia, Juancho a native of Philippines, expected something similar when he landed in Chennai. But he was in for a rude shock, Chennai was very traditional. The customers are choosy eaters. They interact less with us and that made me feel as if I am an outsider, says Juancho.

2010-03-05 Malaysias Central Bank Raises Interest Rates

Growth is expected to strengthen further," Bank Negara Malaysia said in its statement accompanying the quarter percentage point hike in the benchmark overnight policy rate, to 2. 25 pct. "Prices will gradually increase during the year," it said, while predicting that "inflation is expected to remain moderate. " The bank noted the risks of "rising global commodity and food prices. "

In the policy statement, the Malaysian central bank cited the "continued improvement" in exports, "particularly from the regional economies," an allusion to the strength of trade within Asia. Traditionally, Asias export-led economies have relied substantially on demand from the U. S. and Europe. Malaysias economy grew 4. 5 pct. in the last quarter of 2009 compared to the year earlier, helped along by strong consumer spending and trade.

2010-02-23 The Star Online: Blog

I had a really bad experience recently on my way back from Singapore to KL at one of the rest stops along the way. I bought a Ramly burger at one of the shops and being naive or too trusting of the way things are in Malaysia, didnt check the contents of the burger. When i was eating the burger in the bus, after consuming 3 ig mouthfuls, to my horror, I realised that a large mouthful of the burger is bitten on the other side. What the * no. @*. I immediately lost my appetite. I imagined some grimy fingers making the burger and taking a large bite of my burger.

2009-12-05 Supermarkets get slippery over green palm oil promises Fred Pearce Environment

For European food retailers stand accused of hypocrisy over buying palm oil from tropical countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia, where the widely used edible oil is often grown on land that once was rainforest. Many of them promised to buy sustainable palm oil if it became available.

This explains why, Malaysia, which had been the worlds largest producer of palm oil for over a century still has an enviable forest cover of more than 55 pct. , which is one of the highest forest cover prevailing in the world today. The Malaysian state of Sarawak, which is the target of much of the finger pointing still has forest cover of 76 pct. This fact takes on added significance when it is juxtaposed against the prevailing 20 odd per cent forest cover prevailing in
