I also did smaller portions of regular food, ate whole wheat wherever possible and lots of fruits and vegetables. I dont eat much red meat, either. The food journal idea from the "French Women Dont Get Fat" book helped me, even though I kept the journal only for a couple of weeks. It really showed me where the calories were coming from, particularly those glasses of wine and snacks in the evening. So I quit drinking (sigh) and broke my evening routine.

Last March, Kare Bear DayCare in Platteville was fined usd. 100 for failing to provide close supervision after a boy, 3, rode a tricycle across a cul-de-sac to a neighbors house and back without the providers knowledge. The boy was the son of provider Tara Edge, who told the State Journal she was in her house watching other children at the time and her son was outside with her husband.

The staff member was alleged to have lifted toddlers roughly by their arms, hit a toddler on the head with a rolled-up newspaper, picked up toddlers by the back of their shirts and stuffed food in a childs mouth to the point of gagging.

2009-12-08 More Mainers Resorting to Food Stamps

As the recession drags on, more Mainers are resorting to food stamps. Thats according to the Lewiston Sun Journal, which reports that about one in six Mainers is receiving food stamp benefits, compared with one in 10 after the last recession ended in 2003.

According to U. S. Department of Agriculture figures, about one in six Mainers is now enrolled in the food stamp program known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

The U. S. Department of Agriculture estimates that 222,261 Mainers are now receiving help from the food stamp program, officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
