Though our server got points for being appropriately apologetic throughout our meal, the experience continued to decline: Tables nearby are never cleared, there were no paper towels (or hand-dryers) in the bathroom, and when dessert arrived -- a brownie ice cream concoction for all to share -- our server told us she was all out of spoons. Out of spoons (She managed to scrape together a few extra soup spoons. ) We left wondering if the Turtles fast-track was actually a slow descent into mediocrity. If football and beer are on the agenda, it is hard to beat the Greene Turtle. But for food and service, no one seems to be giving 110 percent.

Sophia decided to put usd. . 50 in a bucket of some rank food to see who would put their hand in to retrieve it. There was not any doubt that young kids, who are used to putting their hands in yucky stuff, would go for the coins. What was funny was that Sophia was so shocked that they would do it. In another part of town, Divad and Jared brought the families together for a sit-down about the territorial disputes that had plagued the area. OK, maybe not quite so dramatic, but I thought it nice that the two worked it out about the whole table incident and gave each other a hug.

The red and green districts performed horribly though. How could they have only caught five and six eggs in all of 15 minutes Thanks to the efforts of the blue team, the entire town got their reward though. Their choices were: a laundromat with modern coin-operated washers and dryers (20 cents per load) or new outfits for each of them and four pioneer-era washing machines that were free to operate. How smart of them to choose the second option; not to mention some of them kids really needed some different clothes to wear. I think most of them were wearing the same thing day after day.

Hampton had to close its waiting list for Section 8 housing after about 54 tenants were kicked out of The Apartments of Merrimac in June. Besides its land ownership around the apartments and Section 8 involvement, the city had one other interest - former economic development director James Eason has long co-owned the Food Lion Center next door.

The complex is being converted entirely from gas to electric, with full new heating and air and electric systems, plumbing, roofs and windows. The units, which are intended for families and college students, will have washers and dryers and new cabinetry and appliances.
