Cookies and baseball go together very well, said Mark Leishear of Bellas Cookies last season we were late approaching the Shorebirds, but this year we approached Ovations Food Service and were starting off the season with Bellas Cookies in the concessions. Bellas Cookies is a line of product from Kelly and Mark Leishears natural and organic bakery and is named after their 6-year-old daughter Bella. Normally found in health food stores and food markets, natural and organic products arent typically found in places such as ballparks. Today however, its becoming more common that parks are offering their customers healthier options at their concession stands: including lower calorie, fresh/local options and vegetarian choices. The Journal staff also challenged the Echo staff during March. Simply put, whichever office collected the most money for their respective food shelf in March won. (This contest was just between the two offices; the amount we collected from Journal patrons was a separate collection. ) The losing office has to make cookies for the winning office. Since I am writing this on April 1, I cant tell you who the winner is; our boss still has to fine tune the results. But, if I end up having to make cookies for the Echo office, you can be pretty sure that I will make enough for our office. Not much of a sacrifice, if you ask me.

2008-04-02 Girl Scouts Help Food Shelf

On Monday, a troop of Colchester Girl Scouts delivered 214 pounds of food they collected during their door-to-door cookie campaign. The donation included 136 boxes of Girl Scout cookies, thanks to some kind Colchester residents.

This is the fourth straight year the troop has donated to the Food Shelf and loved doing it.

The girls say they are already making plans for next years cookie campaign for the Food Shelf.
