2008-10-21 News - Recalled cookies tainted with melamine discovered in Connecticut

Agency inspectors discovered the items in Connecticut stores last Friday as part of ongoing efforts by the Departments of Consumer Protection and Agriculture to ensure that neither tainted food nor pet food is sold in the state. Tests on the cookies by the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station laboratory determined that the product, Lotte Koalas March Chocolate Crme Cookies, contained melamine above allowable levels determined by the US Food and Drug Administration. The lab analysis was part of an ongoing, cooperative survey of products by the Agricultural Experiment Stations Analytical Chemistry Laboratory and the Department of Consumer Protection.
