The 58th annual celebration of everything Pennsylvania Dutch, the Kutztown Festival runs from th thru July 6th, 2008. As in years past, this years festival features folk art exhibits, crafts, quilts, antiques, collectibles, entertainment, food and family fun. Through , more than three million Girl Scout cookies are expected to be sold to hungry customers inside various businesses in Genesee, Lapeer, Northern Oakland and Shiawassee counties. Cookie varieties along with peanut butter sandwiches include caramel deLites, peanut butter patties, thin mints, shortbreads, lemonades, and Thanks-A-Lots. But my enthusiasm, well, melted a bit, although I cant really blame the oven, or the mice. Apparently, to turn off the timer, you dont push the off button. That turns the whole oven off, as I discovered about 15 minutes after I put the second batch of cookies in. They were slightly melted, but mostly still just tall piles of raw dough. I turned the oven back on, and finished baking them. They were significantly flatter and browner than the first batch, but still tasty. Its hard to go too far wrong when youve got enough butter, sugar and chocolate.
