2010-08-11 In our opinion - Food Bank changes the right move - Ukiah Daily JournalOur newsroom is working on a story which will explain the Food Banks current problems, but in a nutshell, it appears the Food Bank was living beyond its means. In a well-meaning effort to provide increased services in increasingly poor economic times, the Food Bank put together a staff it simply could not afford and is now having to pull back on that hiring and make changes that will allow it to continue to serve its core population of the elderly and working families while making more use of the partnership it has begun with the Buddy Eller homeless shelter through the merging of the Ford Street and Community Center boards at the beginning of the year. We were as surprised the rest of the community to hear that the Ukiah Community Center Food Bank was having financial trouble.
