News on Filipino Food2010-09-01 Summer picnic Fili-Billy - A Filipino living in East TennesseeThe Filipino food served at the Philippine-American Association of East Tennessee Summer Picnic was enough value to cover my annual membership fee. My stomach was not as big as my eyes. I looked at all the food I wanted to eat but my bellys capacity could not hold it all. I was walking like a goose trying to stabilize myself after I ate lunch. Talking with folks I havent seen in years at the picnic was very fulfilling and gratifying. Some folks from the Nashville Filipino-American association also attended. One of them was Alicia Lundquist, a former champion of a national television singing contest in the Philippines. She treated us with authentic renderings of some popular traditional Pilipino songs with her beautiful voice and guitar accompaniment. A large group gathered around her and sang along in different dialects. 2010-08-30 Business - Barrio Fiesta works to sizzle back to life - INQUIRER. netWhile Filipinos in the later 1950s might not go out for food similar to lutong-bahay, the promise of having special fiesta food probably was tempting. Soon Barrio Fiesta became the venue of choice for events and occasions people hoped to remember for a long, long time, if not forever. Weddings, graduations, christenings, birthdays celebrations were not true celebrations unless they were held at Barrio Fiesta. Barrio Fiesta enhanced bonding among kith and kin by serving food in typical Filipino fashion. Everything was placed in the middle of the table to be shared by everyone, the way it is done in homes, instead of being served portioned out on individual plates. LIKE THE Filipino tradition it has been named after, Barrio Fiesta was, for a whole generation of Filipinos, a place for festivities, celebrations and the gathering of families and friends. Many milestones were marked by a visit to a Barrio Fiesta branch.

Filipino food is very much so indicative of the history of the country. By eating a Spanish/Filipino dish you can see the large influence that colonization had on this island country, in contrast by eating the Filipino dishes of the late 1800s you can see a reemergence of Filipino ideas, Filipino recipe, and culinary traditions after the Spanish invaders were driven into the sea. Other influences from a variety of countries can be seen appearing and disappearing from Filipino Culinary traditions as they fought for their culture and their freedom. Today we are presented with one of the most colorful of Asian food selections that display an amalgamation of cultures, but are

2010-08-12 Turkish flour controversyThis adherence to international quality and safety guidelines has made Turkey a top exporter of wheat flour by 2009. The fact that Turkish flour is a major supplier to the UN World Food Program further proves its quality and health standards. Whats more, Turkish flour has been doing Filipinos a big favor. By providing an affordable alternative to the expensive flours available in the market today, it has been keeping our favorite bread products more affordable. As a staple in the diet of many Pinoys, bread-price increases are a bane to many poor people. Even a small blip in the price of its basic ingredients sends a shock to the bread-eating public. 2010-07-25 Filipino row: ReviewsComing from a culture where we, like Italians, think food equals love, I was inundated with all kinds of traditional Filipino meals from a very young age. This is one area where I consider myself a bit of an expert. The first place I ate Filipino food in Alaska that was not a relatives kitchen. RJs is located downtown on Sixth Avenue and has drawn loyal customers for years. Its pastries and unassuming, homestyle food are the stuff of cravings. Filipino row
