2009-12-10 News: FAO, Denmark COP15 side event on food security.Farming practices that capture carbon and store it in agricultural soils offer some of the most promising options for early and cost-effective action on climate changemeasures that could also address the threat of rising food shortages, poverty, and civil unrest in some developing regions. Yet according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), agriculture has been largely excluded from the main climate financing mechanisms under discussion in Denmark for COP15. According to figures from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), covering the years 1990-2002, Denmark is one of the few OECD member states that has combined growth in agricultural production with reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. In Denmark, agriculture contributes 15 pct. of the total emissions of greenhouse gases. Emissions of methane and nitrous oxide from Danish agriculture fell by 23 pct. between 1990 and 2007, mainly because of drop in the number of heads of cattle and a considerable increase in agricultures carbon efficiency. 2009-12-02 The Independent Archives News Local Danish Christmas keeps Christmas tradition, community going strongThe Danish Christmas, though, remains largely the same. This Sunday, it will feature the same music, Danish dancing and, of course, Danish food that have become annual traditions in Dannebrog. The communitys youths supply a good part of the entertainment, with the Centura High School choir performing, along with a childrens bell choir and Danish dancers made up of Dannebrog-area children. But few of those towns are smaller -- and more distinct -- than Dannebrog and its 19th annual Danish Christmas.
2009-11-30 The Biggest DanCham Christmas Lunch EverThe food buffet was, of course, exactly like a traditional Danish Christmas Lunch - delicious and very heavy. 2009-11-25 Christmas Party for Danish Kids in BangkokThe party started at 10 in the morning and lasted for three hours and all the DWN members had each made all kinds of delicious food which they brought along to the garden party. It was a great buffet with Danish rye bread, sandwiches with egg salad and sausages, liver pate, meat balls with cold potato salad, homemade pies and pasta. Of course the desserts were in the traditional Danish style, like homemade bleskiver with icing sugar and marmalade. One of the highlights was Mai Ellegaards husband Yu. Not only did he show up with a tonne of different kinds of high quality home-made Danish pastries that tasted exactly like coming directly from a Danish bakery. He had also baked small petit fours with real home-made marzipan and later he dressed up as a certain someone starting with S. C.
2009-11-24 Miranda Kennedy -- The Indian attitude on climate changeEven under the spinning ceiling fans in his office, drops of perspiration kept springing onto Bhushans forehead as we talked. Like many in India, he draws a bright line between Indias "survival emissions," from burning energy to produce food, for instance, and American-style "luxury emissions," from things like SUVs and central air conditioning. In the five years I worked as a reporter in India, I sat through many uncomfortable silences during interviews about Pakistani terrorists, the pervasive caste system and Indian Muslims -- sensitive issues that, on the face of it, seem more controversial than carbon parts per million. But these. - Emissions in India; India greenhouse gases; India climate change; India global warming; US-India talks on climate
