Forget what celebrities think. What about real life

Of course, some celebrities are worth your avid attention because they actually try to achieve something that isn and rsquo;t all about their wealth or fame. Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver (who has a show soon on ABC in which he tries to get the people of a U. S. city to eat healthier by making their own food) could be raking in the cash, with his popular cooking shows, books, endorsements and restaurants. Instead, he keeps trying to do something more worthwhile than cook on TV, market stuff and make money. Oliver built a TV series on turning a bunch of hopeless, wayward kids into cooks. Then he tried to change the food that kids eat in British schools. He has had some success at it too. Sure, he craves attention. But this guy keeps trying to do something noble. That and rsquo;s where and ldquo;optimism of the will and rdquo; enters the picture.

2010-03-09 Q and A: Celebrity chef Mark McEwan

My family is all Canadian. My father was drawn to Buffalo on business in the early 50s. In 1975, (he) moved back to Toronto based on work. I did my Grade 13 here. I imagined myself going to Guelph university and taking hotel management. There were big chefs in France, and food was coming more forward. I thought Id take a stab at apprenticeship for one year. (That was at the Regal Constellation Hotel in 1976. ) I got into the kitchen and I never looked back. I felt like a fish in the water. I moved through the ranks quickly.

2010-02-27 Illness from norovirus can be prevented

There are no specific medicines to treat norovirus. Protect yourself by washing hands frequently, especially after toilet visits and before preparing, serving or eating food or drink. Do not prepare food when sick and for at least 48 hours afterward.

Noroviruses are common, contagious and cause an unpleasant gastrointestinal illness. The virus is spread through direct contact with a person who has the virus, by touching contaminated surfaces, or by eating food or drinking liquids that have been contaminated.

Many of its ships are massive vessels featuring sports-minded activities: simulated surfing, rock-climbing walls, ziplines, boxing rings. It gets a slightly more affluent clientele than Carnival (its chief competitor), more Europeans; has an excellent childrens program that competes with Disney for family-pleasing cruises. Improved food, but lots of commercial offers, nickle-and-diming.

A premium line with marginally higher rates than the mass-volume companies; has a number of smaller ships pursuing more exotic or lengthier itineraries favored by an older crowd. Generally (and except for its newer, larger ships), doesnt offer the spaciousness of most Celebrity cruise ships. But it enjoys a fiercely loyal clientele that likes its formula.

Though superficially they may look alike, the various cruise lines tend to emphasize different themes, policies, entertainment programs and atmosphere.
